Some people have them and others don’t, but when they appear, they tend to attract a lot of attention. They are the small dimples that form on the lower back, just above the buttocks.
In many places they are known as “dimples of Venus,” and for centuries they have been surrounded by curiosity, symbolism, and even beliefs about health.
But beyond aesthetics and physical appearance, what do these dimples really mean, and why do some women have them while others don’t?
The dimples on the lower back are small, natural depressions in the skin that appear over the sacroiliac joints, in the area where the pelvis connects to the spine.
