6 Minute Caramels

Prepare the Dish:

Grease a small dish or line it with parchment paper. A 9×5-inch loaf pan works well for thicker caramels, or an 8×8-inch pan for thinner pieces.

Mix the Ingredients:

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Stir until well combined.

Microwave the Mixture:

Microwave on high for 6 minutes, stopping to stir every 2 minutes. Be careful as the mixture will be very hot. The mixture should bubble up and thicken. Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your microwave, so adjust accordingly.

Check the Texture:

After the 6 minutes, do a quick test by dropping a small amount of the caramel into cold water to see if it forms a soft ball. If it does, it’s ready!

Add Vanilla:

Once the caramel reaches the right consistency, stir in the vanilla extract.

Pour and Set:

Carefully pour the hot caramel mixture into your prepared dish. Let it cool at room temperature or refrigerate it for faster setting.

Cut and Serve:

Once fully set (about 30-60 minutes), cut the caramel into squares or desired shapes. If you like, sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top for a salted caramel finish.

Serve:

Enjoy these rich, chewy caramels as a quick homemade treat or gift!
